Texas Holocaust and Genocide Commission

The Lone Star Student Task Force on Antisemitism

Student Participation Overview

Mission Statement

The Lone Star Student Task Force on Antisemitism works to ensure that the State of Texas has an accurate and up-to-date understanding of antisemitism on high school and college campuses. By centering student experiences and firsthand observation, the Task Force creates a direct channel through which what students see, hear, and experience in everyday campus spaces can inform awareness, decision-making, and potential policy responses.

Purpose

Much of what shapes the climate around antisemitism on campus occurs outside formal reporting channels. Classroom dynamics, student organizations, informal conversations, and online spaces often remain invisible unless a major incident occurs.

The Lone Star Student Task Force on Antisemitism brings student insight into these less visible spaces, allowing the Commission and state legislators to better understand how antisemitism manifests across campuses and how students experience it in real time.

Student Participation

Students participating in the Task Force contribute by observing and describing the climate on their campuses, including patterns, incidents, conversations, and broader trends related to antisemitism. Their role is not to propose policy, but to provide grounded, experience-based insight that helps the State of Texas understand what is actually happening on campuses across the state.

Student Roles

Student Members

Student Members serve as observers of campus climate. They share experiences,
observations, and reflections related to antisemitism on their campuses through surveys, written responses, and group discussions as requested by the Task Force.

Student Leadership Council

Members of the Student Leadership Council are responsible for synthesizing student input and presenting key themes, findings, and lived experiences to the Task Force and, when appropriate, to state legislators. Leadership Council members help ensure that student perspectives are conveyed clearly, responsibly, and accurately beyond individual campuses.

Benefits of Participation

Students participating in the Task Force have the opportunity to contribute directly to statewide understanding of campus antisemitism, engage with the work of the Texas Holocaust, Genocide, and Antisemitism Commission, and access educational resources and trainings related to antisemitism and Holocaust education. Participation offers students a meaningful way to turn observation into awareness and awareness into potential change.

Application Process

Students apply by completing a brief online application. All applicants are asked to provide basic information and respond to multiple-choice and short-answer questions related to campus climate.

Students interested in serving on the Student Leadership Council complete two additional short essay questions and may be invited to participate in a follow-up conversation.
