THGAAC Education Grant

The Texas Holocaust, Genocide, and Antisemitism Advisory Commission (THGAAC) offers to fund a variety of programs through its THGAAC Education Grant program. These grant funds may be used for:

  • Combating antisemitism and/or implementing Holocaust and genocide courses of study and awareness programs;
  • Supporting volunteers who have agreed to share, in classrooms, seminars, exhibits, or workshops, their verifiable knowledge and experiences regarding the Holocaust or other genocides;
  • Supporting events that memorialize the Holocaust and other genocides;
  • Supporting events designed to enhance public awareness of the fight against antisemitism and continuing significance of the Holocaust and other genocides; and
  • Supporting efforts to recognize International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

This grant is open to all permanent, non-profit institutions that are headquartered in the State of Texas.

Amounts up to $50,000.00 may be granted per project.

2025 THGAAC Education Grant Recipients

Per Texas Government Code, Chapter 403, Section 403.0245, as of 9/1/2013, state agencies and institutions of higher education are required to publish the purpose of state grant awards greater than $25,000.

The following organizations have been awarded THGAAC grants for their corresponding projects:
  • Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum
    • “Jeanne Celestine Lakin—Fall 2025 Upstander Speaker Series Event” | $3,875.00
      • This grant will help bring Rwandan genocide survivor Jeanne Celestine Lakin to speak in September 2025, as part of DHHRM’s “Upstander Speaker Series.”
    • “‘Kindertransport: Rescuing Children on the Brink of War’ Special Exhibition” | $32,525.00
      • This grant will help fund the display of a special exhibition at the museum.
  • Holocaust Museum Houston
    • “Antisemitism Timeline Project” | $30,500.00
      • This two-part, bilingual timeline will be added to the existing “Bearing Witness” permanent exhibit. The museum is asking THGAAC to fund the second part of the timeline, which focuses on antisemitism after the Holocaust and the importance of Israel.
  • Jewish Federation of San Antonio
    • “Young Upstanders Museum Trunk Project 2025” | $50,000.00
      • This program will provide educational materials and programming to align with Jewish American Heritage Month, emphasizing the teaching of human value, character development, ethics, and the importance of standing up to hate.
  • St. Sarkis Armenian Church
    • “Texas Genocide Education Summer Institute” | $30,000.00
      • This will provide teachers with instruction, resources, and tools on teaching about genocide and the Holocaust. The institute will emphasize the stages of genocide and the importance of standing up against antisemitism and ethnic hatred.
In addition to the above, Friends of the THGAAC has generously agreed to fund the following:
  • Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum
    • “‘Kindertransport: Rescuing Children on the Brink of War’ Special Exhibition” | $17,475.00
      • This grant will help fund the display of a special exhibition at the museum.
  • El Paso Holocaust Museum and Study Center
    • “Reimagining Access to Holocaust Education” | $25,000.00
      • This will allow the museum to update their website, to include free access to their educational materials, virtual tours, and other resources for educators and the public.
  • Opera Leggera, Inc.
    • “Janusz and Stefa National Tour—Texas” | $7,000.00
      • This opera tells the stories of Janusz Korczak and Stefania Wilczynska. The organization is also developing educational materials to correspond with the opera.
  • Texas A&M International University
    • “Preventing Antisemitism in Our South Texas Border Region” | $30,000.00
      • This will fund two separate conferences that feature experts on the topic of antisemitism, as well as speaker events and workshops.
  • Texas Tech University
    • “Holocaust Memorial Program” | $1,500.00
      • This will fund a month-long education series, including public lectures and Holocaust movie screenings at local theaters.

        Grant Recipient Orientation

        The 2025 Education Grant awards will be announced on August 1. All recipients are required to attend one orientation meeting before beginning their projects. These meetings will be held on Zoom on the following dates:
