Since 1980 he has examined the general question of assets looted during the Nazi era. He worked as an expert historian on a class-action lawsuit filed by Jewish claimants against three leading Swiss banks, accusing them of having expropriated the property that their families had deposited in their safes and bank accounts. The child didn’t survive the trip and at selection, his wife was sent to the gas chamber. Schmuel was condemned to slave labor at Auschwitz where he toiled for over three years. Schmuel’s survival is miraculous and the story an inspiration. During these harrowing and isolating years, he composed poetry. Post-1945, Ascher developed a distinctive artistic style, drawing inspiration from the nearby Grunewald, focusing on landscapes while remaining faithful to his expressionist visual language. He lived a reclusive life until his passing on March 26, 1970. Click for more info

Senate Bill 1828 charges the Texas Holocaust, Genocide, and Antisemitism Advisory Commission with developing or approving materials for a statewide Holocaust Remembrance Week. Provided is information on best practices and various lists of approved resources.
The THGAAC sends out a quarterly newsletter in order to provide information on past and upcoming events. E-mail blasts with deadlines or when grant applications are available are also sent periodically.
