Details | Henry Weil heard drums and marching well before catching sight of the German troops thundering down the street in front of his apartment in 1938 Vienna. At first, young Henry thought this was an occasion for celebration, but then, he turned from the window and saw his mother crying. Over the next year, the Weils were forced from their apartment, while Henry’s father struggled to secure paperwork to get his Jewish family out of German-occupied Austria. Learn how Henry and his parents managed to outrun the danger in Europe and evade German U-boats while crossing the Atlantic. Speaker Moderator Watch live at youtube.com/ushmm.
