Details | Join the Texas Historical Commission and the Eisenhower Birthplace State Historic Site for a virtual workshop on April 28th at 10 A.M. From April to May of 1945, the United States Army liberated twelve concentration camps throughout Germany. Many of the men who liberated the camps hailed from Texas, including Dwight Eisenhower. Dwight Eisenhower deliberately documented the atrocities he encountered while visiting Ohrdruf, the first camp that the Americans liberated. His purpose was to expose the atrocities and ensure that the truth be told. He tasked liberators, journalists, political leaders, and citizens to continue to bear witness. This presentation examines the roles of Dwight Eisenhower, George Patton, the liberators, and ourselves in bearing this enormous responsibility. |
