After the defeat of Nazi Germany, the "Big Three," Harry Truman of the United States, Winston Churchill of the United Kingdom, and Joseph Stalin from the Soviet Union met in Potsdam in the summer of 1945 to discuss and negotiate peace terms for postwar Europe.
