About the Speaker
Paul Kessler was born in 1939 in the village of Vranov nad Topl'ou, Slovakia. His father was in one of the first groups to be sent to Auschwitz, where he was ultimately killed. He and his mother survived the Holocaust in hiding, primarily in a hole dug by local farmers. Paul and his mother were liberated when Soviet troops entered the region in 1945.
