In 1951, the Civil Rights Congress mobilized its members to bring forth a petition to the newly created United Nations, listing the decades of crimes committed against the American Black community. The movement, We Charge Genocide, was meant to draw attention and end the policies that had disenfranchised Black America. Instead, it was ignored.

This Center for Holocaust & Genocide Studies at the University of Minnesota panel will shed light on the efforts to use international law to challenge systemic racism, why it failed, and how groups are carrying the torch of the movement that was launched 70 years ago this month.
