Online Class: The Holocaust and the Creative Impulse | HMLA

Join Holocaust Museum LA for this three-session online class to learn about artistic activities in concentration camps and ghettos. This class will focus on musical pieces that were composed and performed there. In additional to experiencing this music, the presentations will include exploration of the reasons for such compositional activity, as well as brief discussion of the coincidental use of ancillary arts.

This class will be held online Tuesdays, October 6, 13 and 20 at 4:00pm PDT.

Nick Strimple has served on the faculty of the USC Thornton School of Music since 1996, where he is now an emeritus professor. He has composed over 100 works for concert, worship, film, and television, which have been commissioned internationally. Dr. Strimple is the author of two critically acclaimed books and has contributed chapters to four others, including the chapter on music as resistance in the multi-award-winning Jewish Resistance Against the Nazis. Most recently he wrote the Forewords to a biography of Rabbi Jacob Sonderling and a book on nineteenth century choral performance practice. His articles and reviews have appeared in Music and Letters, American Choral Review, The Choral Journal, The Orel Foundation Online Journal, Journal of the Central Conference of American Rabbis, Music Library Notes, The Austrian History Yearbook, and other journals.

Tuition for this class is $36 for Museum members and $54 for non-members.
