Join Holocaust Museum LA for this online talk by Dr. Raul Artal-Mittelmark, who will explore the role of physicians and nurses during the Holocaust, as well as the origins of informed consent.

Dr. Raul Artal-Mittelmark was born in 1943 in a Nazi concentration camp in Transnistria. His birth was very difficult, but a physician in the camp was able to help and save both Raul's life and his mother's life. After the camp was liberated, his parents returned to their hometown of Czernowitz, which had fallen under Communist rule. Despite difficulties and many attempts to leave the Soviet Union, they eventually moved to Romania, the United States and finally Israel. His complicated birth inspired him to become an obstetrician and specialize in high-risk pregnancies. While in medical school in Israel, Raul met his wife. The two settled in St. Louis, Missouri, where he eventually served as chairman of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women's Health at St. Louis University.
