Educator Workshop: Living and Surviving in the Jewish Partisans | Echoes & Reflections   View Event

  • Description:  During World War II, approximately 30,000 Jews, many of them teenagers, fought back against the Nazis and their collaborators in armed resistance. How did these Jewish partisans survive in the forests of Nazi-occupied Europe—and what can their experiences teach students today? Led by Sheri Rosenblum, Director of Operations, Development, and Programs for the Jewish Partisan Educational Foundation, educators will explore the Living and Surviving in the Jewish Partisans lesson, designed for grades 6–12. Through short films, firsthand testimonies, primary sources, and classroom activities, participants will examine the challenges of finding food, medicine, clothing, and shelter while confronting danger, antisemitism, and difficult ethical choices. Teachers will leave with ready-to-use strategies and activities they can bring directly into their classrooms, including opportunities for students to explore the themes of resourcefulness, courage, resistance, and resilience.   • Description:  Promote student understanding using artifacts from the Museum’s collection At this free online event, learn how historians work as investigators to examine evidence and reconstruct the stories of people murdered by the Nazis. Explore how letters, documents, photographs, and other artifacts preserve personal experiences for generations to come. Gain instructional strategies for analyzing primary sources using the Museum’s classroom-ready resources. Panelists will model approaches that place evidence into historical context, guiding students to think critically about how and why the Holocaust happened and its impact on individuals. At this virtual event, panelists will Provide historical context and approaches for analyzing personal letters written during the Holocaust. Model instructional strategies, including primary source and text analysis, to build historical thinking skills and enhance student literacy.Share classroom-ready resources designed to strengthen student knowledge across various disciplines and grade levels.
