Description:
Contemporary testimony offers a powerful lens for understanding antisemitism, resilience, and the human impact of violence. Drawing on the October 7 contemporary testimony collections of the USC Shoah Foundation and the Ghetto Fighters' House, this webinar explores how firsthand accounts can illuminate the realities of contemporary antisemitism, challenge misinformation and dehumanization, and foster meaningful engagement with complex and difficult topics.
Participants will be introduced to educational guidelines, research resources, and practical tools for incorporating testimony into classrooms, scholarship, and public learning environments. Developed jointly by the USC Shoah Foundation and the Ghetto Fighters’ House as a follow up to Collecting Testimony Then & Now, the session will examine how personal narratives can support the study of contemporary antisemitism, strengthen critical inquiry, and create opportunities for reflection while preserving the dignity, agency, and lived experiences of those who have shared their stories. During this session, participants will:

Description:
This webinar examines strategies to effectively use drawings, paintings, and other handcrafted objects to teach the Holocaust. Participants will examine how these artifacts serve as physical evidence, historical record, and forms of resistance. Participants will also explore approaches for integrating these primary sources into the classroom to foster critical thinking and confront Holocaust denial.
Led by Dr. Catherine Clark, USC Shoah Foundation's Senior Director of Programs, whose scholarly work focuses on the relationship between history and visual artifacts, the session will equip educators with practical strategies to teach students how to analyze visual primary sources and handcrafted artifacts, construct historical narratives and engage with this history in ways that foster historical literacy and compassionate understanding.

Description:
Eight decades after the Holocaust, award-winning American filmmaker Yoav Potash unearths the haunting mysteries of a small Polish town where Catholics and Jews lived side by side for centuries. Among Neighbors focuses on two individuals who lived through World War II and its aftermath: Yaacov Goldstein, a Holocaust survivor whose story exposes both the heights of human compassion and the depths of cruelty, and Pelagia Radecka, an eyewitness to the murder of five Jews by her Polish neighbors six months after the end of the war.
Breaking decades of silence for this film, they share secrets they have held for a lifetime. Their experiences are brought to life in stunning animated sequences, enriched by artful touches of magical realism. Together, their accounts illuminate one of the darkest chapters of Poland’s history.

Hosted by the Alabama Holocaust Education Center
Women were often at the very heart of resistance, whether spiritual, cultural, or armed. In this online talk, Sheryl Ochayon, Yad Vashem's Echoes & Reflections Project Manager, will focus on the role of women, especially the part they played in armed resistance. This story has largely remained in the shadows or, perhaps, been overshadowed by the stories of armed resistance in the ghettos of Europe. Yet it is a story of incredible bravery exhibited by a group of Jewish girls and women.
This webinar connects to Unit 7 on the Echoes & Reflections website.

Description:
No wonder Michelle Friedman became a psychiatrist – she started young.
A child of Holocaust survivors, she grew up on a Catskills chicken farm, absorbing a legacy of trauma, displacement, and family violence. In this illustrated memoir, Michelle weaves together hair-raising stories of her parents’ wartime survival with vivid memories of life on the farm in Divine Corners, a remote Borscht Belt hamlet and an unlikely home for cultured Polish Jews raising three children. Her unflinching yet loving inquiry explores Jewish identity, resilience, and what makes one person break while another survives.
Divine Corners depicts the struggle it took to make it out of the limited trajectory of her childhood and emerge into a rich life that includes family, community, and professional gratification as a psychiatrist and teacher of rabbis in Manhattan. An excerpt from the book's epilogue appeared in the Modern Love column of the New York Times in August of 2022

Description:
The "Final Solution" was not a single decision made on a single day. It was a process that escalated over time, shaped by ideology, war, and the choices of individuals and institutions. For students to understand how the Holocaust unfolded, educators need to understand how the Nazi regime moved from persecution to violence.
Join Echoes & Reflections Director of Holocaust Content and Pedagogy Jesse Tannetta as he traces that progression utilizing the Timeline of the Holocaust. Discover strategies on how to incorporate this interactive resource into your classroom to help students understand the escalation of violence from Nazi racial ideology to industrial mass murder.
This webinar connects to Units 2, 5, and the Timeline of the Holocaust on the Echoes & Reflections website.
