Understanding Holocaust History: Art in the Holocaust   View Event

  • Description:  Join the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum during this virtual presentation. Under inhumane conditions and in utmost secrecy, art was created during the Holocaust. Julie Meetal Berman, artist and second-generation survivor, will present works of art created between 1939 and 1945 as a declaration of the unshakeable human spirit that refuses to surrender. Echoes of "Night": Personal Reflections from Elie Wiesel's Student   View Event

  • Description:  Elie Wiesel’s Night holds a unique place in Holocaust literature. Join Dr. Elana Heideman, who earned her Ph.D. under the mentorship of Professor Wiesel, who will share her unique perspective on the book's text and context, and Wiesel’s own reflections on the value and contribution of his memoir. THGC April 2020 Quarterly Meeting   View Event

  • Description:  The Texas Holocaust and Genocide Commission (THGC) is holding its quarterly meeting on Monday, April 27, 2020 beginning at 8:30 A.M. Every quarter the THGC holds a meeting, open to the public, in order to review its current projects and initiatives. The Commission invites any member of the public who might be interested in its mission to this meeting. Due to Governor Greg Abbott’s March 13, 2020 proclamation of a state of disaster affecting all counties in Texas due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and the Governor’s March 16, 2020 suspension of certain provisions of the Texas Open Meetings Act, the April 27, 2020 meeting of the Commission will be held by video-conference, as otherwise authorized under Texas Government Code section 551.127 Members of the public will have access and a means to participate in this meeting, by two-way audio/video, by connecting to the video access number identified above, or by clicking on the link contained on the agency website's event calendar. The video access number contained in this notice is subject to change by the conference provider at any time. Members of the public are encouraged to confirm the correct conference access number/link 24 hours before the meeting by going to the agency website. An electronic copy of the agenda is available. A recording of the meeting will be available after April 27, 2020. To obtain a recording, please contact Joy Nathan, at 512.463.8815 or at joy.nathan@thgc.texas.gov. For public participants, after the meeting convenes, the presiding officer will call roll of board members and then of public attendees. Please identify yourself by name and state whether you would like to provide public comment. You may also email joy.nathan@thgc.texas.gov in advance of the meeting if you would like to provide public comment. When the Commission reaches the public comment portion of the meeting, the presiding officer will recognize you by name and give you an opportunity to speak. All public comments will be limited to two (2) minutes. All participants are asked to keep their microphones muted when they are not providing public comment. Virtual iRead Book Club for Adults: "Survival in Auschwitz" by Primo Levi   View Event

In Survival in Auschwitz, Levi describes his arrest as a member of the Italian anti-fascist resistance during World War II and his incarceration at Auschwitz from February 1944 until the camp was liberated on January, 27 1945. Bearing Witness: Ike and the Liberators   View Event

  • Description:  Join the Texas Historical Commission and the Eisenhower Birthplace State Historic Site for a virtual workshop on April 28th at 10 A.M.From April to May of 1945, the United States Army liberated twelve concentration camps throughout Germany. Many of the men who liberated the camps hailed from Texas, including Dwight Eisenhower. Dwight Eisenhower deliberately documented the atrocities he encountered while visiting Ohrdruf, the first camp that the Americans liberated. His purpose was to expose the atrocities and ensure that the truth be told. He tasked liberators, journalists, political leaders, and citizens to continue to bear witness. This presentation examines the roles of Dwight Eisenhower, George Patton, the liberators, and ourselves in bearing this enormous responsibility. Register here. Facebook Event.
