The Texas Holocaust, Genocide, and Antisemitism Advisory Commission (THGAAC) partners with various organizations throughout the State of Texas (and even those outside of the state) in order to develop projects that the Texas public can utilize to further their knowledge about the Holocaust and/or genocides. Collaboration can be with non-profit organizations or even public universities. Previous and current projects have included a partnership with Texas Tech University's Honors College and the Baylor University Institute for Oral Histories to generate the Texas Liberator Project. The THGAAC has also partnered with The University of Texas at El Paso to create the Online Digital Library for Educators that allows Texas educators an opportunity to supplement their classroom instruction with free access to survivor testimonies through film or literature.
Currently, the THGAAC is working to develop or to oversee projects with:
The Ackerman Center for Holocaust Studies | The University of Texas at Dallas
- Operation Texas and Lyndon B. Johnson's involvement in securing visas for European Jews seeking refuge in the United States
- LBJ and the Holocaust | Ackerman Chronicle Newsletter
Honors College & Texas Tech Public Media | Texas Tech University
- Narratives of Modern Genocide documentary film
"After the Holocaust the world said, 'never again,' yet genocide is happening in the world right now. The stories we forget to tell, of the survivors we never knew, will haunt us until we listen and act. Narratives of Modern Genocide challenges the audience to experience first-person accounts of survivors of genocide. Directed by Paul Hunton, TTU Public Media, and produced by Aliza Wong, Texas Tech University, and executive produced by the Texas Holocaust and Genocide Commission, the film follows the stories of Sichan Siv and Gilbert Tuhabonye and how they escaped the killing fields of Cambodia, and the massacre of school children in Burundi. Mixing haunting animation, and expert context the film confronts our notion that the holocaust was the last genocide." -Texas Tech University Honors College
Narratives of Modern Genocide museum exhibit
"'Narratives of Modern Genocide' tells the oral history of 14 survivors of genocide in Cambodia, Darfur, Rwanda and Burundi as collected by the Institute of Oral History at Baylor University. Curated by Dr. Aliza Wong, Interim Dean of the Texas Tech Honors College and designed by Andy Gedeon and Cameron Saffell, Museum of Texas Tech University, the exhibit features the photographs of Mark Umstot and the graphics of Ian Love. The exhibit examines the definition of genocide, offers a historical description of these human tragedies, and spotlights the voices of genocide survivors who find new hope and new homes in the state of Texas." -Texas Tech University Honors College
