“The World Will Turn Right-Side Up One Day”: An Interdisciplinary Workshop on Teaching about Holocaust and Genocides
The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM) and the Texas Holocaust and Genocide Commission (THGC) will cofacilitate this free, two-day, live workshop for educators of grades 6-12. The program will introduce TEKS that pertain to the Holocaust and genocides; provide an overview of vocabularies and histories; explore contemporary issues and best-practice guidelines in historiography, literary/artistic representation, and pedagogical approaches; and model the use of a variety of resources, including those that highlight Texas and Hispanic connections to the Holocaust and genocides.
Attendance confers professional development hours in ELAR or Social Studies, though educators in any discipline are invited to attend. Classroom teachers, curriculum specialists, and librarians are welcome.
Complementary lunch and teaching resources, including Spanish language ones, will be provided.
