SUMMARY:2027 International Holocaust Remembrance Day Commemoration | DHHRM
DESCRIPTION:Marking the liberation of Auschwitz in 1945\, International Holocaust Remembrance Day allows us to reflect upon the profound tragedy of the Holocaust while coming together to share a moment of peace and hope for the future.\nThis year’s commemoration features a debut screening of In My Father’s Words\, which follows Holocaust survivor George Salton’s journey as a Jewish boy living happily with his family in Tyczyn\, Poland\, to a teenage victim of Nazi brutality. At 14\, Salton was separated from his family and endured three years as an enslaved laborer\, moving through ten concentration camps across Poland\, Germany\, and France.\nTold through Salton’s recorded testimony and brought to life with vivid animation sequences\, In My Father’s Words also follows his daughter\, Anna Salton Eisen\, as she works to preserve her father’s story and bear witness to his experiences. Through archival research\, she discovers the children of Salton’s fellow prisoners\, leading to emotional reunions and a deeper connection to her father’s past. Together\, their stories reflect the enduring responsibility to remember the Holocaust and to ensure that such tragedies are never forgotten.\nA talkback with Anna Salton Eisen will follow the film.\n\nAbout the Speaker\nAnna Salton Eisen is the executive producer of In My Father’s Words. She is the author of The 23rd Psalm: A Holocaust Memoir\, The Twentieth Anniversary Edition (A National Jewish Book Awards Finalist in 2022) and Pillar of Salt: A Daughter’s Life in the Shadow of the Holocaust. Salton Eisen’s film is based on both of her books. She has been published in The Jerusalem Post and The Forward\, among other publications. As a founder of Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville\, Texas\, site of the antisemitic synagogue hostage crisis in January 2022\, she has been featured in news outlets\, including CNN\, The New York Times\, The Washington Post\, and NPR.\n\nIn My Father's Words is rated PG-13.
