Texas Holocaust and Genocide Commission

Volunteering with the THGAAC

Every institution and organization greatly benefits from its corps of volunteers. The Texas Holocaust, Genocide, and Antisemitism Advisory Commission (THGAAC) has been no exception. These volunteers deserve our deepest gratitude!  Since the establishment of the former Texas Holocaust and Genocide Commission (THGC) in 2009, over 60 volunteers from various parts of Texas and different backgrounds have generously donated their skills and time to promote its mission:

  • About 20 volunteers made essential and noteworthy contributions toward the creation and maintenance of a supplementary resource list to be available to teachers throughout the state of Texas as a guide for teaching about the Holocaust and genocide, and also as an aid in meeting the state of Texas TEKS standards promulgated in 2010.
  • Twelve other volunteers (including a number of ethics professors) are serving on the Higher Education Ethics Initiative subcommittee that is recommending basic ethics topics for teaching in the core curriculum of Texas higher learning institutions, as will be required by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
  • A number of Baylor University volunteers have interviewed and recorded oral history testimonies given by surviving WWII veterans who took part in liberating Nazi concentration camps
  • Several other volunteers helped create the former THGC website and current Friends of THGAAC website, or assisted with various other projects.

After completion of volunteer activities and the project having been properly posted to the Commission's agenda for quarterly meetings, local volunteers are formally recognized for their services with a certificate of appreciation and THGAAC emblematic pin at THGAAC Quarterly Meetings.
